Rhinoplasty: Everything From A to Z

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the shape and, when needed, the function of the nose at the center of the face. This article outlines the process for informational purposes.

Who might consider rhinoplasty?
It may be evaluated for a dorsal hump, a drooping or wide tip, facial disproportion, or a deformity after trauma. If there is difficulty breathing, functional issues can also be included in the plan. Suitability is determined only by an in-person examination.

How is the process planned?
During the consultation a facial analysis is performed, expectations are assessed and the appropriate technique (open or closed) is chosen. Skin thickness, cartilage structure and breathing function are personal factors that influence the plan.
The recovery process
Swelling and bruising may appear in the first days; the protective splint is usually removed within a week. Most swelling subsides in the first weeks, while the final result settles over several months. Follow-up visits are important for healthy progress.
